My name is Maureen Yetter. I have been teaching at Alanson Elementary since 1999. I graduated from Michigan State University in 1994 with a dual degree in communications and family ecology. In 1996 I returned to school at the University of Detroit Mercy to complete my degree in elementary education, along with my early childhood degree. While studying at the University of Detroit I was trained in storytelling, watercolor, singing, and movement. I believe that in using all of the arts, education can be more engaging and fun for elementary learners. I have a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Grand Valley State University, which focuses on educating children 0-8 years old.
In 1999 I began my teaching career at Alanson Elementary. While here, I have taught First Grade, Kindergarten, and Art and Music.
What I love most about teaching is connecting with each student on an individual level. I love being creative in my approach to all lessons. I love the way it feels when a student is proud of their progress. I love to develop a community of learners who respect each other and themselves. I feel lucky to work with each and every student and family that touches my life through teaching!
